Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé has been named The Best Fifa Men's Player on Tuesday, edging out Barcelona and Spain prodigy Lamine Yamal and his France international team-mate Kylian Mbappé.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a standout campaign and played a decisive role as PSG finally ended their long wait for the UEFA Champions League trophy last season, a triumph that significantly strengthened his case for the individual accolade.
Voting for Fifa's flagship awards involved a broad cross-section of the global football community.
Coaches and captains of the men's national teams from all 211 FIFA Member Associations were invited to select their top three candidates.
Their votes were combined with those of media representatives who regularly cover the men's game, as well as fans registered on FIFA.com.
Nigeria coach, Eric Chelle, did not take part in the voting process. Instead, the country was represented by Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong and respected journalist Oluwashina Okeleji.
Troost-Ekong, a former Super Eagles captain, cast his votes in favour of Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi and Lamine Yamal in that order.
Media representative Okeleji also selected Dembélé as his first choice, followed by Hakimi and Egypt star Mohamed Salah.
The final top ten ranking was completed by Achraf Hakimi, Raphinha, Mohamed Salah, Vitinha, Harry Kane, Nuno Mendes and Pedri.
The Men's Player of the Year award was adjudged based on performances and achievements recorded between August 2024 and August 2025, a period in which Dembélé’s influence at both club and international level proved decisive.
