The Super Eagles of Nigeria were defeated 2-1 by the Pharaohs of Egypt in their final warm-up match ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Nigeria began the game with Stanley Nwabali in goal; a back four of Bright Osayi-Samuel, Chidozie Awaziem, Ogbu Igoh, and Zaidu Sanusi; midfield pairing Frank Onyeka and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro alongside Raphael Onyedika; and an attacking trio of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Paul Onuachu, and Chidera Ejuke.
Egypt dominated early possession, with Nigeria gradually growing into the match around the 14th minute.
The first goal arrived in the 28th minute, when Saber capitalised on a low cross from Zizo to put Egypt ahead.
Nigeria’s response came swiftly after halftime, with Awaziem equalising in first half stoppage time following a free-kick from Zaidu.
Egypt regained the lead in the 53rd minute through Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed, finishing off a move orchestrated by Zizo. Nigeria attempted to respond, with key contributions from Ajayi and Dele-Bashiru in the latter stages, but were unable to convert their chances.
Despite sustained pressure in the final 15 minutes, including efforts from Dessers and Dele-Bashiru, Nigeria could not find a second equaliser.
The match concluded 2-1 in favor of Egypt. The Super Eagles now turn their attention to the 2025 AFCON, where they will face Tanzania in their opening game on Tuesday, December 23.
