Newcastle United glovesman Karl Darlow has earned high praise from former Liverpool and Arsenal goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis after making a brilliant save to deny Crystal Palace rising star Eberechi Eze from finding the net in an English Premier League clash at Selhurst Park on Friday night.
Eze has waited patiently for his chance to break into Crystal
Palace's starting lineup following his summer move from Queens Park
Rangers and tonight's clash against the Magpies was his third start in a
row in the division.
Both sides headed into the interval deadlocked at 0-0 but the England U21 international of Nigerian descent had a chance to open the scoring when he stung the gloves of Darlow with an effort from range in the 24th minute.
Crystal Palace failing to score in the first forty five minutes was largely down to Darlow who made a series of saves.
Speaking on Premier League Productions at half time, Brown-Finnis said : "The actual top saves have been made by Darlow as he's done all season.
"This one from Eze, ball comes in, little touch, but it's the positioning from Darlow that makes that a relatively easy save.
"He's off his line - four, five yards off - makes the goal look small means that he can deal with the pace of the ball.
"He's in line, middle of the goal and the ball is on that line there, he's off the line, four, five yards out.
"As the ball is struck with venom, with power, he can deal with it really simply.
"If it had been deeper there it would have caused more problems."
Eze, who opened his Premier League and Crystal Palace account against Leeds United, went the distance for the third consecutive game tonight.
A late, late show from Newcastle United secured them three points, Callum Wilson and Joelinton the scorers in a 2-0 win.
