Former Golden Eaglets invitee hits brace as Plymouth Argyle beat table-topping Cardiff City

2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Aribim Pepple delivered a standout performance on Saturday afternoon, inspiring Plymouth Argyle to a resounding 5-2 victory over EFL League One leaders Cardiff City at Home Park with a well-taken brace.

The tri-national striker, who is eligible to represent Nigeria, Canada and England at international level, is currently enjoying a rich vein of form, having now scored in four consecutive matches in England’s third tier.

Plymouth made a bright start to proceedings, taking the lead in the 28th minute when Lorent Tolaj finished clinically after being teed up by Pepple.

Pepple then doubled the advantage three minutes later, before Omari Kellyman reduced the deficit in the 33rd minute.

Pepple restored the hosts’ two-goal cushion eleven minutes before the interval, heading home at the back post after connecting with a delivery from Wes Harding.

However, Cardiff responded once again, with Kellyman curling an effort into the top corner from the edge of the box to keep the contest alive before the break.

The second half belonged to Plymouth Argyle as further goals from Tolaj and Mathias Ross sealed an emphatic 5-2 triumph for the home side.

Pepple’s brace took his tally to 11 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions this season.

The 23-year-old joined Plymouth Argyle last summer after spells with Calgary Foothills, Cavalry FC, Luton Town, Grimsby Town, Bromley, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Southend United and Chesterfield.

Super Eagles centre-back Gabriel Osho played the full match for Cardiff City and was cautioned in first-half stoppage time.
