Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has been named in the BBC Premier League Team of the Week, joining players from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and other clubs following the latest round of matches, as selected by BBC Sport pundit Troy Deeney.
The former Ajax defender earned his place after a strong showing for Fulham, scoring and delivering a dominant defensive performance.
His inclusion places him alongside Fulham teammate Bernd Leno, who was selected in goal after producing several key saves in Fulham’s 3-2 win at Burnley, and Harry Wilson, who contributed two assists and a goal in the same match.
Also on the list are Chelsea defender Malo Gusto; Liverpool pair Ibrahima Konate and Hugo Ekitike; Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes; Nottingham Forest duo Ibrahim Sangare and Callum Hudson-Odoi; Sunderland defender Nordi Mukiele; and Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers.
Bassey’s selection comes while he is on international duty with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who are preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to begin on Sunday in Morocco.
The Fulham defender was among the 21 Super Eagles players who took part in the team’s first training session on Monday evening.
The session formed part of Nigeria’s build-up to today’s friendly match against Egypt, as preparations continue ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
