Sevilla head coach Matías Almeyda has revealed that Super Eagles striker Akor Adams is in the right mental space ahead of their crucial La Liga clash against FC Barcelona on Saturday.
Adams recently ended a frustrating goal drought after finding the back of the net in Sevilla’s 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
The Nigerian forward had previously endured a difficult spell in front of goal, failing to score in matches against RCD Mallorca, Girona FC, Deportivo Alavés, Getafe CF, and city rivals Real Betis.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, the Argentine tactician praised Adams’ attitude and the overall motivation within the squad.
"Well, what I can tell is that he's doing well. Like all his teammates, he's motivated, aware of what's at stake. Everything we're playing for is very close, and everyone is important," Almeyda was quoted as saying by Futbol Fantasy.
"And whenever the strikers score, that's what we need. So I'd say that after scoring a goal, he must be very motivated. Especially with the opponent we're going to face."
The 26-year-old forward has been an important figure for the Rojiblancos this season. Adams has registered seven goals and three assists in 22 league appearances.
Notably, the Nigerian striker also made his mark earlier in the campaign by scoring against Barcelona in the reverse fixture.
As Sevilla prepare to face the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou, Adams will be hoping to build on his recent goal and help his side achieve a historic result.
Sevilla are aiming to secure their first victory at the Camp Nou in over 23 years, and the Super Eagles striker will be eager to maintain his fine form to help the team achieve the feat.
