'If Inter let Thuram go' - Transfer expert says he wouldn't be surprised if Lookman returns to Italy

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman could be on the radar of Inter Milan once again, according to Italian transfer expert Paolo Paganini.

The Nigeria international has previously attracted interest from the Nerazzurri, and recent comments suggest that Inter may consider revisiting their pursuit under the right circumstances.

Paganini, a sports journalist for Rai, highlighted that while the prospect of bringing Lookman back to Serie A is more complicated now than in previous transfer windows, it remains a possibility.

He explained that the club might act decisively if key players depart. On the potential conditions for a return, Paganini said, as quoted by Mundodeportivo.

“If Inter lets Thuram go and makes a profit from the sale of Bastoni, they can bring back Ademola Lookman. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried again.”

He further emphasized that the club could make significant moves depending on the situation with their attacking options.

Regarding Thuram’s future, Paganini noted, “Thuram’s agent is touring Germany and England: he’s one of the players who will likely leave.”

These comments underline the uncertainty surrounding Inter’s squad and suggest that the departure of certain players could create space for Lookman’s return.

Inter’s interest in Lookman dates back to the 2025 summer transfer window, when the club reportedly agreed personal terms with the winger while negotiating with his then-club Atalanta.

Reports from that period indicated that Lookman had accepted Inter’s contract terms, but Atalanta maintained a high valuation, which complicated the negotiations.

To close the gap, Inter explored player-plus-cash proposals, including the potential inclusion of midfielder Kristjan Asllani.

Despite these efforts, a permanent transfer did not materialize before the window closed, and the pursuit became one of the most talked-about transfer sagas in Serie A that summer.

However, Lookman moved to Atlético Madrid during the winter transfer window, completing a permanent transfer from Atalanta.
