With a statement on the official website, Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen have confirmed that they have completed the signing of former Nigeria U20 international Afeez Aremu, following a successful medical.

By signing a contract until 2028 with The Dons, Aremu ended his association with German 2,. Bundesliga club Kaiserslautern.

The deal is subject to visa formalities and international clearance.

Aberdeen sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel previously worked with the 2019 U20 Afcon star during his stint at St. Pauli.

This season, Aremu saw his playing opportunities limited at Kaiserslautern, accumulating just 157 minutes on the pitch in the second tier of German football, while he logged 64 minutes in the DFB Pokal.

In his first words as a player of Aberdeen, Afeez stated: "I’m excited to be here. I’ve been made to feel really welcome, and I can’t wait to get started.

"I like new challenges and I think Aberdeen offers that. For me, I am growing and taking the next step in my career so it’s a huge move.

"I’m an aggressive player but I have other attributes to my game. There is a lot to play for this season. There is a chance to move forward, and I want to strengthen the team to help them achieve good things.

"I’m ready to give everything every time I put the shirt on and look forward to playing in front of the fans."

The 26-year-old Aremu is the second Nigerian player signed by Aberdeen in the January transfer window, following the arrival of Toyosi Olusanya.
