Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has revealed the challenges he faced while playing at right-back for Nigeria in their penalty shootout victory over Egypt on Saturday, which secured the Super Eagles the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Dele-Bashiru, who finished at right-back for the match, addressed his performance in an unfamiliar position.
On being asked about his experience playing in different positions, he said, "Yeah, I'm quite versatile."
The former Sheffield Wednesday player elaborated on his readiness to adapt whenever called upon by the coaching staff.
"I'm always ready wherever the coach wants me to play. Today it came as a surprise, but I think I tried to do my best," he added.
Dele-Bashiru also reflected on the physical demands of playing at right-back.
"It gave me a lot of respect for people who play right-back because it’s very, very tough running up and down the pitch.
In the end I was dead, but yeah, I was just happy that we got the victory," he said.
