Villarreal made it two wins from their first two matches since the restart of the Spanish La Liga after beating Mallorca 1-0 at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Tuesday evening.
Manager of the Yellow Submarine, Javi Calleja handed Samuel Chukwueze his first start in eight league matches, a reward for his brilliant performance in the last round against Celta Vigo, and the Nigeria international was clearly the most influential player on the pitch today.
Carlos Bacca netted the game-wining goal from close range in the 16th minute thanks to the brilliance of Chukwueze.
The Super Eagles winger sped down the wing, got away from a Mallorca defender with a cheeky chip before sending a left-footed cross to the Colombian who guided the ball into an empty net.
Former Chelsea fullback Albert Ferrer was impressed with Chukwueze's skill in the build-up to the goal and suggested that he stole the limelight from the goalscorer, Bacca.
Speaking to La Liga TV after the game, Ferrer said : "It was a fantastic piece of skill from Samuel Chukwueze, not a nice finish from Carlos Bacca but it counted, three points.
"Apart from that, the game was level, very open, chances for Villarreal, chances for Mallorca.
"Again Mallorca played a good game, didn't get anything out of it, two good games in a row, getting zero points, that's frustrating".
Up next, Chukwueze and his teammates face Granada at the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium on Friday, June 19.
