Algerian midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki has stressed that his team’s preparations for their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Nigeria go beyond focusing on individual stars.
The Twente midfielder highlighted that while Nigeria boasts two of the tournament’s most dangerous attackers, Algeria cannot afford to focus on individual players alone.
He specifically acknowledged the threat of Nigeria’s attackers Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen but emphasized the importance of preparing for the entire squad.
“It's not only the two of them. All the players of Nigeria have their qualities. They are a good team,” Zerrouki told reporters in Morocco.
He added that Algeria is taking a comprehensive approach to their preparations, focusing on every aspect of training to ensure the team is ready for the challenge ahead.
“So, we're going to prepare ourselves as good as possible to face them. And what I say, it's going to be a big game,” he noted.
The comments come ahead of the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s quarter-final clash against Algeria on Saturday.
The Eric Chelle-led side have been impressive in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, winning all their matches to date, and will be aiming to extend their flawless run when they face the North Africans for a place in the semi-final.
