'Leave our African brother alone' - Oliseh faults ex-teammate Henry over criticism of Salah

Former Super Eagles manager Sunday Oliseh has disagreed with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry over his comments on Mohamed Salah’s recent outburst following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United.

The Egyptian granted a fiery interview in which he claimed Liverpool had “thrown him under the bus” and that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had deteriorated.

The Egyptian forward was subsequently dropped from the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan, further fueling speculation about tensions at Anfield.

While analyzing the situation, Henry questioned Salah’s decision to go public, suggesting the Liverpool talisman should have handled the matter privately.

He went on to draw a comparison with his own experience at Barcelona, claiming he accepted being dropped for an away game against Villarreal after a poor run of form.

Oliseh, however, strongly disagreed. In a post shared on X, the former Nigerian international defended Salah and criticised Henry’s take, arguing that the circumstances surrounding both incidents were not comparable.

“I like "tete",we played at Juventus together, but i think he is getting this one wrong!” Oliseh wrote.

“When will some people learn that it is not always about them?! Salah has been the "Main man" at Liverpool for almost a decade like Messi at Barcelona.”

He further stated that, unlike Salah, Henry was not signed to lead Barcelona’s project.

”Henry was not bought to Barcelona to lead the team but rather to help Messi, Eto'o, and Iniesta lead the team! The way Salah is loved and adored in Egypt, Henry was and is miles away loved that way in France,” he added.

Oliseh concluded by acknowledging that Salah had every right to feel discontented with his situation at Liverpool, although he agreed that the forward should not have taken his frustrations public.

”With all due respect!  Salah has a right to be unhappy at his situation more than henry had at Barcelona, but Salah should only not have gone public!! Abeg leave our African brother alone ”

Salah will hope to earn a place in the squad for this weekend’s home fixture against Brighton before joining the Pharaohs for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
