Ligue 1 club Marseille table official bid for Arsenal midfielder on Eric Chelle's radar

Olympique Marseille have submitted an official loan bid to Arsenal for midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.

The proposed arrangement would see Nwaneri join the French club on loan until June, with no option to buy included. Marseille are set to cover the player’s salary during the loan period.

The loan deal reportedly features a fee exceeding €3 million, structured around Nwaneri’s appearances, reflecting the player’s objective of securing regular first-team football.

Arsenal have indicated openness to negotiating the terms, and discussions between the two clubs are ongoing.

British journalist David Ornstein confirmed that club-to-club talks have already begun, with Arsenal evaluating their options amid interest from other sides.

Italian clubs and Premier League side Crystal Palace have also expressed interest in Nwaneri’s services.

The 18-year-old midfielder rose to prominence during the 2024/2025 season with Arsenal, scoring nine goals and providing two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.

The potential loan move to Marseille is aimed at providing him with consistent senior-level playing time.

Born in England to Nigerian parents, Nwaneri has represented England at various youth levels but remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles, as he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Three Lions.

Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle is monitoring the Hale End Academy graduate with a view to a potential call-up should Nwaneri decide to switch his international allegiance from England to Nigeria.

While Arsenal have not officially confirmed the loan agreement, ongoing negotiations indicate that both clubs are actively working to finalize the terms of Nwaneri’s potential move to Marseille.
