Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers have announced the signing of Nigeria youth international Akinjide Idowu, subject to the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.<br /><br />The financial terms and duration of contract have not been disclosed per league and club policy.<br /><br />Aged 19, the defensive midfielder had been linked with possible moves to a host of clubs in Europe, including Celtic, Udinese, Sogndal and Sparta Prague, before pitching tent at Providence Park.<br /><br />Akinjide Idowu was an important member of the Golden Eaglets squad that won the Fifa Under 17s in 2013 and represented the Flying Eagles at the World Cup two years later.<br /><br />For a start, he will represent Portland Timbers 2 in the third - tier of American football.<br /><br />
