RB Leipzig head coach Ole Werner has confirmed that Nigeria U20 international Suleman Sani will be sidelined for several matches after suffering a fresh injury, dealing a further blow to his early days at the club.
Sani joined Leipzig during the winter transfer window following an impressive stint with AS Trencin and his standout performances at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
However, the 19-year-old winger has endured a frustrating spell in Germany, largely due to persistent fitness issues.
The young forward had been out of action since January with an ankle problem and only recently returned to training towards the end of February.
However, hopes of a comeback were dashed, after he picked up another injury during a training session ahead of Leipzig’s Bundesliga fixture against Werder Bremen.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Werner revealed that Sani sustained a muscle injury in his hip during Wednesday’s training session, ruling him out for a number of upcoming fixtures.
"He will certainly miss several games," Werner said, as quoted by Liga Insider, casting doubt on the youngster’s involvement for the remainder of the campaign.
Since arriving at Leipzig, Sani is yet to make his competitive debut for the club, with injuries severely limiting his integration into the squad.
In total, he has missed 12 league matches due to fitness concerns and related setbacks.
As the season approaches its conclusion, Sani will now focus on recovery, with the aim of regaining full fitness and showcasing his potential once he returns to action.
