Warri Wolves supremo, Davidson Owunmi, was elated that his skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe has been named in the 23 - man squad.

And the former top goalscorer in Nigeria’s First Division has stressed that the central defender deserves to be on the plane to Brazil on merit.

Owunmi told the Nigerian edition of Soccer Laduma, SL10.ng  “The inclusion of Azubuike Egwuekwe is a welcome development. He has been working very hard for the past two seasons.

“It’s honour to whom honour is due, he has been doing well. I am sure everyone was impressed with his performance in South Africa during the African Nations Championship.

“We are aware of the 50,000 pounds expected to be paid by FIFA. And as soon as it comes, the club will be more buoyant.

Azubuike Egwuekwe, who attracted interest from Red Star Belgrade last summer, was also picked for the Fifa Confederations Cup in June 2013.
