Kogi United Draw Sunshine, First Bank In Gold Cup Preseason Tournament
Published: January 16, 2015As part of preparation to have a better outing in the 2014/2015 Nigeria National League, NNL season, Kogi United will engage Premier League side, Sunshine Stars in an eight team preseason soccer tournament tagged Gold Cup in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The Gold Cup tournament which is in its second edition will also see Kogi United taking on First Bank and FC Ebedei in group A.
Tournament coordinator, Tunde Shamsudeen who disclosed that the competition which will take place at Dipo Dina Stadium, ijebu-ode will kick off on January 29 and end February 6.
He noted that it was aimed at assisting clubs to have a feel of competitive games before the commencement of leagues in the country, adding that teams are expected to play 3 group matches with the first two teams with highest number of points qualify for the semi-finals.
Kogi United’s media officer, Wale Mustapha who confirmed his club’s participation at the tournament, noted that the Gold Cup would assist greatly in putting the team in better shape for the challenges ahead in the league.
He however affirmed that the Wada Boys will go into the tournament with total focus and aim of winning it.
Sunshine Stars are champions of maiden edition of the pre-season tournament.
