England Coach Explains Why He Replaced Layton Ndukwu At Euro Under 17s
Published: May 08, 2015
England Under 16s manager, John Peacock, has explained why he had to sub out Anglo - Nigerian Layton Ndukwu against Italy in both countries opening Group D fixture at the European Under 17 Championship on Thursday.
The gaffer has stressed that the Leicester City striker gave a good account of himself but had to replaced for Edwards because he wanted a sharper attack.
“Yeah, a change like that does (look good on the manager),” said Peacock to thefa, com.
“But I said to Layton that it was nothing on reflection with his performance, I just felt we had to be a little bit more clinical in the attacking third.
“It’s nice when it comes off - it doesn’t always do that. Everyone has played their part tonight though, even those on the bench, and we are all pleased with the outcome.”
England, who defeated Italy 1- 0 courtesy of Edward’s strike in the 47th minute, will face Italy in their next game at the tourney.
