Rashidi Yekini Foundation To Present Cash/Award For NPFL Top Scorer
As the 2015- 2016 Nigerian Professional Football League is rounding up this weekend, the Rashidi Yekini Foundation has concluded plans to present the a hundred thousand naira cash prize and one of the boots used by late ‘ goal-king’ as an incentive and souvenir to the first recipient of the Highest Goal Scorer Award for the Nigeria Professional Football League.

It would be recalled that the League Management Company’s had pronounced to name the Highest Goal Scorer Award for the Nigeria Professional Football League after the late Super Eagles legend, Rashidi Yekini who died more than three years ago.

According to information released by the Rashidi Yekini Foundation that initiated the award before the LMC adopted it as a very good means of immortalizing the Super Eagles’ all time highest goal scorer in Ibadan and made available to the sporting press, a day would soon be announced that the award will be presented to the eventual winner.

“The first daughter of Yekini, Mariam that is schooling at Leicester University United Kingdom and the second one, Yemisi that had just gained admission to study law in University of Ilorin would be the ones to present the award to the winner.

“The main objective of the foundation is to etch the name ‘Yekini’ in a sand of times, because we have come to realize that, it won’t be easy organizing memorial event for him annually, but instituting an award in our league where my late client had recorded highest goals severally and also with the national team would be more logical.” said the counsel to late Yekini, Barr. Jubril Olanrewaju Mohammed who is also a member and spokesperson of the Yekini Foundation.

He added that the foundation is taken it one after the other, the first agenda is to have Yekini’s name immortalized and also promoting the foundation to be able to raise resources to support the education of the deceased two daughters.

Close contenders for the award according to statistics on the NPFL website are Esosa Igbinoba of Nasarawa United FC who has scored 15 goals while Adeniji Tunde of Sunshine Stars of Akure with 14 along Chisom Chikatara of Abia Warriors FC and Gbolahan Salami of Warri Wolves FC are closely chasing him but Bright Ejike of Heartland FC who has 13 goals could also spring
surprise.
