At a gala ceremony held at the Grosvenor Hotel, London on Sunday , Alli beat teammate Harry Kane, Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku (both Everton), Jack Butland (Stoke) and Philippe Coutinho( Liverpool) to the accolade.

“I’m honoured to win such a prestigious award and I have to say thank-you to all the players who voted for me in Premier League and in the lower leagues as well,” Dele told Spurs official website.

“It’s been a good year for me and I’ve obviously got a lot of people to thank, especially the gaffer for giving me my chance.

“I’ve always been quite confident in my own ability but maybe I didn’t expect things to happen this quickly. ”

Alli is the first player of Nigerian descent to win the Young Player of the Year Award which has been presented since the 1973-1974 season.
