Revealed : Kelechi Nwakali Failed Trials With Manchester City, Ajax Amsterdam Offered 1.5 Million Euros
Published: May 06, 2016A source close to Belgian-based intermediary Klay Ekeocha has dismissed claims by ASJ Academy Owerri and Kelechi Nwakali’s elder brother, Allwell, that he demanded four million pounds from Manchester City as agency commission after the player’s trials with Manchester City a year ago.
One of the most closely guarded secrets of the Nigerian transfer market can now be revealed. Man City did not offer Kelechi Nwakali a contract because he did not impress the coaches during tests with the club in 2015, so talks of a transfer fee/agency fees might be out of topic.
“The family and academies insisted that Kelechi Nwakali should go to Manchester City, and the truth is that he failed trials with City but Klay hid this fact to protect the boy, ” a source close to Klay Ekeocha, who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitivity of the transfer, told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“City did not want to pay a penny after they watched him at trials, so that’s why the deal collapsed. People are saying it’s Klay’s fault that he didn’t sign for City but they were not interested even after the World Cup.
“Kelechi’s deal with Arsenal will collapse if Klay is not part of it, let’s wait and see. ”
The source added : “Klay never asked for four million pounds from Man City. The money was the total transfer package: agency fees, money paid to family and transfer fees to the two academies.
“Allwell said Klay is greedy but how much is Arsenal supposed to pay if it’s three times the money offered by Ajax Amsterdam because the deal from Ajax was about 1.5 million euros.”
Kelechi Nwakali was on the radar of two other London clubs West Ham and Chelsea before he started negotiations with Arsenal.
