FK Haugesund Permit William Troost-Ekong To Represent Nigeria At Olympic Games
Published: June 20, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Gent loanee William Troost-Ekong, 22, has been permitted to represent the Nigeria U23s at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Initially, Norwegian Tippeligaen club FK Haugesund were reluctant to release their skipper to the Nigeria Football Federation since the competition is not in the calendar for international matches approved by Fifa.
But after several discussions with the player, his management team and the club, an agreement has now been reached, and he will train with the squad in the United States before their departure to Brazil.
The agreement did not come easy as William Troost-Ekong is captain and one of the key players at FK Haugesund.
The Dutch-born center-back was recently selected in the ceremonial Scandinavian best eleven , and the list included players from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland.
