Nigeria Wonderkid Iheanacho Hails Man City Teammates After Win Over Sunderland
Published: August 14, 2016Super Eagles rising star Kelechi Iheanacho was delighted that Manchester City kicked off the new Premier League season with a 2-1 win at the Etihad in their clash with Sunderland.
In Pep Guardiola’s first competitive match as coach of the Citizens, the 19-year-old entered into the fray in the 80th minute and had a good opportunity to net the game-winner in the 86th minute but saw his effort blocked.
“Great team performance today, looking forward to the next game.#mcfc, ” Iheanacho said on social media.
City drew first blood in the fourth minute when Sergio Aguero scored from the penalty spot. The referee awarded a penalty after Patrick van Aanholt fouled Raheem Sterling in the box.
On 71 minutes, Jermain Defoe scored from close range before an own goal by Patrick McNair decided the outcome of the game.
Next up, Kelechi Iheanacho and his teammates face Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League play-off round on Tuesday, August 16.
