Honduras Stop Mikel From Reaching Chelsea Milestone
Published: August 19, 2016
John Obi Mikel will not be in action in Chelsea’s clash with Watford in the Premier League on Saturday due to commitments with the U23 National Team.
Assuming he had featured against the Hornets, it would have been his 250th appearance in the Premier League since his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Lyn Olso in the summer of 2006.
Mikel has netted once in his 249 Premier League games, notched 11 assists, has been yellow carded 40 times, dismissed once and logged in 16,245 minutes.
The 29-year-old was handed his Premier League bow by Jose Mourinho on August 20, 2006 in Chelsea’s 3-0 rout of Manchester City, after he replaced Didier Drogba in the 83rd minute.
Mikel has started all the five matches played by the Dream Team at the 2016 Olympic Games, and is available for selection in the bronze medal game with Honduras on Saturday.
