Bayern Midfielder Sanches Crowned Golden Boy Of European Football Ahead Of Iheanacho, Iwobi, Dele
Published: October 24, 2016Nigerian wonderkids Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Dele Alli have missed out on the prestigious European Golden Boy award.
Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches won the accolade ahead of the Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur rising stars.
Since the award was established by TuttoSport in 2003, no player of Nigerian descent has managed to win the award of Europe’s best player under the age of 21.
Sanches will be presented with the award at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo on Monday as part of the 2016 European Sport TV Awards.
The award is voted for by 30 top sports journalists across Europe, including foreign football experts from L’équipe, France Football, A Bola, De Telegraaf, Sport-Express, Aftonbladet, Tuttosport, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sports Day.
