Super Eagles Captain Mikel Not Fooled By Zambia Underdog Tag
Published: September 28, 2017Tianjin Teda midfielder John Obi Mikel has given an insight on what to expect from the Super Eagles when they trade tackles with Zambia in a World Cup qualifier next Saturday.
Going into the fixture at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Mikel refused to accept the Copper Bullets are the underdogs, bearing it in mind that they defeated Algeria home and away, but believes the Super Eagles will go through to the World Cup final with a victory.
''I must admit that I applaud the resurgence of the Zambians this late in the qualifiers. Beating Algeria home and away is no mean feat,'' Mikel told thenff.com.
''We will take them very serious on 7th October because they clearly have a new spirit. It is time we wrap this up.''
Finally, the former Chelsea ace explained why the Super Eagles are on the brink of qualifying for their sixth World Cup, and heaped praise on Gernot Rohr and his international teammates.
Mikel added : ''We have all shown professionalism, dedication and determination to be at the pole position in a group tagged 'Group of Death.'
"Commendations must go to the entire team and the Coach, but we must finish it up in Uyo and secure our ticket right there.''
