Moses Omitted; Mikel, Iwobi, Ndidi, Aina Named To Nigeria Roster For Algeria, Argentina Games
Published: October 30, 2017Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has announced a 24-man roster who have the task of maintaining the Super Eagles 12-year unbeaten record in the World Cup qualifiers when they tackle Algeria (November 10), before facing two-time world champions Argentina (November 14) in an international friendly in Southern Russia.
Monaco loanee Elderson Echieijle and Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses are few weeks away from full recovery and have been omitted from the latest squad but Leon Balogun, who had been struggling with his fitness after undergoing surgery, and the injured Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder John Ogu are available for selection.
The up-and-coming goalkeeper, Deportivo de La Coruña's Francis Uzoho, and Manchester City loanee Chidiebere Nwakali have received their first call-up to the national team.
Though a couple of players are in line to make their full Super Eagles debut next month, there are no surprises on the roster, with the likes of Obi Mikel, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa and Alex Iwobi all making the cut.
In the event of any player in the squad suffering an injury, the Nigeria Football Federation have placed Kenneth Omeruo, Alhassan Ibrahim and the uncapped Brian Idowu on the standby list.
The players are expected to start arriving the team's camp in Morocco on Sunday, November 5.
