Man City 3 Arsenal 1: Iwobi Comes Close To Scoring, Akpom & Tosin Omitted
Published: November 05, 2017Manchester City showed another display of attacking masterclass as they beat Arsenal 3-1 in the English Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Pep Guardiola's men who had been unstoppable so far this season yet again showed their title credentials as they cantered to victory with Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus all getting on the score-sheet to consolidate the victory.
De Bruyne got the Citizens off the mark as early as the 19th minute, pouncing on a neat one-two touch with Fernadinho to blast past Peter Cech and open the scoring.
The Gunners tried to get a foothold back into the game, with Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey particularly leading their charge throughout the first period with the City backline proving a hard nut to crack.
Sergio Aguero put Manchester City two nil up on resumption, blasting in a spot kick after Nacho Monreal had been adjudged to have fouled Raheem Sterling in the box.
Iwobi came close to halving the deficit in the 54th minute when he tried a shot from the right which goalkeeper Elderson dropped.
Alexandre Lacazette's 65th minute sumptuous effort halved the deficit and looked to have sparked Arsenal into live in their fight to salvage a point from the clash, though.
But then City swiftly put paid to any lingering hopes they were harbouring for a share of spoils with another goal, David Silva darting into the area in the 74th minute to pick out an unmarked Gabriel Jesus who fired home to clinch all three points for the unbeaten Premier League leaders.
Iwobi was replaced in the 78th minute following a relatively hushed display, teammate Chuba Akpom and City young defender Tosin Adarabioyo were not named in the match day squad.
Manchester City consolidated on their spot at the summit of the league log with the win, having garnered 31 points from a possible 33 while Arsenal are stuck on sixth with 19.
