Manchester United 2 CSKA Moscow 1 : Aaron Samuel On The Bench, Kehinde Not On List B
Published: December 05, 2017Manchester United battled back to claim a 2-1 victory over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford securing the win.
United did not register Lagos-born Nigerian midfielder Tosin Kehinde on the List B before tonight's tieĀ at Old Trafford, so he was missing from the matchday squad along with right-backĀ Matthew Olosunde, who is not eligible for the competition, while Super Eagles striker Aaron Samuel was named on the bench for the visitors.
Jose Mourinho's side started strongly and controlled possession without really threatening to breach the opposition while CSKA Moscow relied mostly on the break in trying to get at their hosts.
Chances were few and far between before the unscripted first goal of the game was scored by CSKA's Vitinho on 45 minutes.
But United would get their equalizer four minutes past the hour mark, Paul Pogba picking out Romelu Lukaku who fired in first time with Igor Akinfeev having little answer.
And just two minutes later the home side completed the turnaround, Juan Mata chipping in a delightful pass to Marcus Rashford who pounced and powered in an exquisite low finish to make it 2-1 and confirm their passage to the next round as group winners.
Aaron Samuel was confined to the substitute's bench for the entirety of the game.
