England Confirm Pre-World Cup Friendly With Nigeria At Wembley On June 2
Published: January 10, 2018The English Football Association have confirmed that the national team will play a pre-World Cup friendly with the Super Eagles in June.
The official Twitter account of the Three Lions has tweeted that England will face Nigeria on Saturday, June 2 at the National Stadium in London, starting from 1715 hours local time, before taking on Costa Rica in their final warm-up five days later at Leeds United.
Gareth Southgate's side have been drawn with Belgium, Panama and one of Africa's representatives Tunisia in Group G of the 2018 World Cup, while Croatia and Iceland are the European teams the Super Eagles will face in the group stage.
England wanted to face a strong African team before their meeting with Tunisia at Volgograd Arena, Volgograd on June 18 and have selected Nigeria.
Nigeria narrowly lost 1-0 to England in an international friendly on November 16, 1994 and held the 1966 world champions to a goalless draw at the 2002 World Cup.
The Polish Federation have confirmed that their national team will face Nigeria on March 23 in their first game of 2018.
