FIFA Ranking : Nigeria Africa's Ninth Best Team, 51st In The World
Published: January 18, 2018Football governing body, Fifa, on Thursday, January 18 published its latest ranking of National Teams.
Compared to their position the previous month, the Super Eagles are static meaning they retained their global position of 51, while they are ninth in the continental ranking.
Tunisia, Senegal, Egypt, Morocco and Congo DR are the top five teams in Africa in that order.
Our three rivals in the group stage of Russia 2018 World Cup - Argentina, Croatia and Iceland - sit in the 4th, 15th and 20th place respectively in the updated ranking.
South Africa, Libya and Seychelles, Nigeria's opponents in Group E of the 2019 African Nations Cup qualifiers, are in the 78th, 89th and 192nd position respectively.
There were no changes in the top five. Germany top the ranking, with Brazil, Portugal and Belgium completing the best five teams in the world.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 15 February 2018.
