Liverpool Coach Klopp Warns Nigeria: Iceland Can Win 2018 World Cup
Published: March 05, 2018
Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Monday, Liverpool's first-team coach Jurgen Klopp has backed Nigeria's rivals at the 2018 World Cup, Iceland, to win the tournament in Russia.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has predicted that Iceland can win the World Cup if Germany or England are not crowned champions.
''Iceland has done amazing things in football. Not only in football but also in handball and other sports,'' Klopp said.
"It could be thought that the country was full of athletes, but there are also doctors, teachers and everything else.
''I do not understand how there are only 330-340 thousand residents there. They must be physicians, teachers and professional footballers at the same time.
"If Germany can not win World Cup and England can not win then I hope Iceland will win. It would be the greatest achievement of sports history.
''I feel comfortable with all the people in your wonderful country. Congratulations on being an Icelandic.''
Nigeria and Iceland will face off at the Volgograd Arena, Volgograd on June 22 in both countries second Group D match at the World Cup.
