Nigerian Duo Star As Chelsea Defeat Tottenham To Win First Silverware Of The Season
Published: March 18, 2018Chelsea have won their first silverware of the 2017-2018 season after their U18 team beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final of the inaugural Under-18 Premier League Cup at Cobham on Sunday afternoon.
Jody Morris named England youth international of Nigerian descent Tariq Uwakwe in the Blues starting line-up, the exciting midfielder Faustino Anjorin entered into the fray in the 83rd minute.
As for Tottenham, defender Timothy Eyoma started and went the distance while goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi was on the bench.
On two minutes, Tariq Uwakwe had the first shot of the game which was easily saved by Spur goalkeeper and captain Jonathan de Bie, before the midfielder won a penalty for his team which was not converted by Gallagher.
Charlie Brown broke the deadlock with a close range finish in the 18th minute and grabbed his brace in the first minute of first-half stoppage time.
Substitute Faustino Anjorin would have increased Chelsea's lead in the closing minutes but a brilliant touch behind from Timothy Eyoma denied him.
The Under-18 Premier League Cup is Uwakwe's third trophy he has won at Chelsea, having helped the Blues win the FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League in the 2016-2017 season.
