Leon Balogun Set To Continue Record Of Never Commanding a Transfer Fee
Bundesliga club Mainz are unlikely to extend the contract of Nigeria international Leon Balogun if they are relegated from the topflight at the end of the season.

The central defender, who joined the club as a free agent, comes off contract at the end of this season, June 30.

German sports publication Kicker, citing sports director Rouven Schröder, says Mainz would like to extend the contract of Balogun but have to wait until the final game of the season when they would have known their fate.

Three matches to the end of the season, Mainz are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference as they have the same number of points, 30, as 16th placed Freiburg.

Since turning professional, the Super Eagles star has never commanded a transfer fee when switching clubs, joining Türkiyemspor, Hannover 96, Werder Bremen, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt 98 and Mainz as a free agent.

Ahead of Sunday's league match vs RB Leipzig, Mainz still list Balogun as out with a rib injury.
