Arsenal 1 Chelsea 1 (6-5 Pens) : Iwobi Nets Deciding Penalty, Moses & Abraham Also Score
Published: August 01, 2018Arsenal beat Chelsea on penalties in their international Champions Cup meeting after a pulsating 1-1 at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Wednesday evening.
Super Eagles stars, Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses both started the London Derby on the bench for their respective sides as also Tammy Abraham but the trio were handed game time when they came on in the 63rd minute.
For the third consecutive pre-season game, Abraham was called up from the substitutes by Maurizio Sarri to replace established striker, Alvaro Morata who was unfortunate to miss a spot kick in the game.
However, it was Arsenal's Iwobi that sparkled the most during his time on the pitch, of all the three that came on in that second period.
First, the Blues gloves man, Marcin Bulka was quick to deny him an equalizer six minutes to stoppage time when the Pole got down swiftly to his left to palm away a goal bound effort from the Nigerian.
The 22-year-old who started the 5-1 thrashing of French champions, Paris Saint Germain last weekend continued to show great understanding and link up play with his attacking teammates and it eventually paid off when they drew level in stoppage time courtesy of Alexandre Lacazette, having trailed to an Antonio Rudiger opener.
During the shoot-out which ensued afterwards, he will also step up to tuck home the deciding penalty to win his side the game after his compatriots on the opposing side, Moses and Abraham had all dispatched their own kicks.
