Published: September 04, 2018The future of talented Nigerian defender Emeka Obi at Liverpool remains covered in mist and it is thought that he has reached an agreement in principle to join Championship side Wigan Athletic, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Obi, who was once described as the most talented 15-year-old in England, arrived the Anfield side in 2016 but has yet to figure for the Reds in the U18 Premier League.
Liverpool have submitted their squad list to the Premier League and for the third successive season, the 17-year-old has not been registered for the competition.
Obi played some matches for Wigan Athletic's U18 team in the first half of last season, scoring against Accrington Stanley and Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Youth Alliance and has returned to the club in the new season and was most recently in action against Bury.
Liverpool poached the Nigerian from Bury few months after he became the youngest player to feature for the club aged 15 years and 86 days.
Meanwhile, five players of Nigerian descent have been included by Liverpool in their Premier League squad list.
They are Dominic Solanke, Bobby Adekanye, Taiwo Awoniyi, Ovie Ejaria amd Sheyi Ojo, who are classed as U21 players.
Awoniyi, Ejaria and Ojo have been loaned to foreign clubs for the entirety of the season and are not expected to be feature in the Premier League.
