Arsenal Player Of The Month: French Midfielder Dubbed The Next David Luiz Beats Iwobi To Award
Published: September 06, 2018French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, who has been likened to Chelsea's David Luiz, has won Arsenal's Player of the Month for August 2018.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi had been in contention for the monthly prize but finished in fourth position with only four percent of the votes.
Matteo Guendouzi produced a string of impressive displays last month, he was the runaway favourite for the award and claimed 68 percent of the votes cast.
Iwobi opened his account for the season in Arsenal's 3-2 loss at Chelsea, before claiming an assist against West Ham on August 25.
The Hale End Academy product was an unused substitute in the Premier League opener vs Manchester City and was not in the squad that traveled to Cardiff City due to injury.
In the Goal of the Month poll, Iwobi's strike against Chelsea finished in second place behind Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s effort in the same game at Stamford Bridge.
