'All The Players Are In Top Form' - Eagles Receive Vote Of Confidence From Ex-Real Madrid Star Ahead Of AFCON
Published: January 23, 2019Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has backed the Super Eagles in their bid to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Egypt in the summer.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the last two editions of the showpiece event on CAF's football calendar but qualified for this year's tourney with a game to spare after they were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa two months ago.
Adepoju, who began his career abroad with the youth team of Real Madrid, believes the Super Eagles are a strong team and most of their key players have been doing well for their clubs ahead of their trip to Egypt.
''Nigeria is always one of the contenders if we are talking directly. I believe we have a standard team, a team that is consistent now,'' said Mutiu Adepoju.
''We have to try and work very hard, all the players are playing for their clubs and are in top form.
''I believe they are going to end the season and go the Nations Cup in top form as they are now. I believe it is possible to win the Nations Cup.''
Adepoju helped the Super Eagles to win the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and was part of the squads for the World Cup in 1994, 1998 and 2002.
