Published: March 23, 2019There were activities that went unnoticed when the Super Eagles clashed with Seychelles Friday evening in the 2019 AFCON qualifier at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Allnigeriasoccer.com's Izuchukwu Okosi was at the venue and presents some of the side attractions.
1. Fans Refuse To Hail Eagles Stars On The Bench
The stadium announcer reeled out the names of players of the Super Eagles and there was loud applause and whispering for the starting XI but such euphoria was not to be when those on the bench heard their names.
The stadium went mute for few seconds.
2. Fans 'Taunt' Iwobis For Alex's Misplaced Passes
The parents of Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi were in the stands to see their child make them proud.
Four minutes into the game, the Arsenal forward made a faulty pass and a certain lady sitting behind the pair screamed: "Who you dey pass to now, eh, Iwobi."
The player's mother smiled while his father, Mr Chuka Iwobi shrugged his shoulders.
There were more of such comments afterwards like a young man repeatedly stating how much Iwobi earns at Arsenal which the parents refused this time to react to.
3. The Stadium's Big Screen 'Hangs In The Woods'
The big television screen at the Stephen Keshi Stadium was supported by planks as its still under construction.
That attracted few concerning reactions from the fans.
4. Fans Got Boosted!
As the game wore on, beverage makers Lucozade Boost shared their drinks to the fans who thronged the stadium to cheer their darling national team.
The people needed it as the goals rush came.
5. Half time Musical, Freestyle Performance
A five man musical group with a lady serenaded the crowd as well as the usual mimicked comic free style of the one known as 'Jay Jay' who mimics the goals celebration and characters of players and coaches.
The crowd cheered the latter with every move he made.
