Major League Soccer outfit New York City have confirmed via their official website that Nigerian-born defender Sebastien Ibeagha has been retained by the club for the 2020 season.

Ibeagha and twenty other players are under contract for next season and the roster contains three goalkeepers, seven defenders, five midfielders and six strikers.

The Eastern Conference club exercised the contract options of the Nigerian, Luis Barraza, Ronald Matarrita and Brad Stuver.

Ibeagha returned to the United States in 2016 after spells with European clubs Horsens, FC Fredericia (both Denmark) and Reykjavik (Iceland).

He previously wore the jerseys of Duke Blue Devils, Houston Dynamo, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, Rayo OKC and San Antonio FC before switching to New York City in February 2018.

Last season, the 27-year-old earned 11 starts in the American top-flight and played as a substitute in 12 matches.

On the international stage, the 2017 USL Defender of the Year has played competitive matches for United States U20 national team.
