'So Honoured And Proud' - Heracles Goal Poacher Dessers Reacts To Maiden Nigeria Call-Up
Published: March 04, 2020Heracles Almelo goal poacher Cyriel Dessers is excited to receive his first ever invitation to the Nigeria national team ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone in March, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
With the backing of Nigeria Football Federation supremo Amaju Pinnick and the striker's form in the Dutch Eredivisie, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was left with no choice but to hand him a maiden call-up.
In addition, Dessers benefited from the absence of Belgian-based strikers Paul Onuachu and Emmanuel Dennis who were both in contention to add to their international caps until they suffered injuries.
With 15 goals to his name, the 25-year-old is the second highest scoring player of Nigerian descent playing for a European club in the 2019-2020 season, behind KF Laci's Kyrian Nwabueze, who has tallied 17 goals.
Writing on Twitter, Dessers stated : "So honoured and proud. Can’t wait to wear the Green-White jersey and meet the team! @NGSuperEagles #naija".
Dessers will battle two in-form strikers in the shape of Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho and Lille's Victor Osimhen for a starting berth against the Leone Stars.
