Fortuna Dusseldorf's Super Eagles Rookie Goalkeeper Banned In Germany After Kung-fu-like Kick
Published: March 07, 2020Fortuna Dusseldorf starlet Maduka Okoye is one of three goalkeepers named in the Super Eagles latest squad list for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone but could be lacking match fitness ahead of the games in Asaba and Freetown, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Okoye has been handed a two-game ban following his sending off in Fortuna Düsseldorf II's 2-0 win against Homberg in the Regionalliga last Saturday.
The Super Eagle took the walk of shame on the half-hour mark following a kung-fu-like kick on Homberg striker Cagatay Kader just outside the penalty box.
He will now miss the upcoming trips to Borussia Mönchengladbach II and Lippstadt 08 as a result of his suspension.
The latest incident - the first red card he has received since turning professional - is a minor blip as he made huge progress in his career last month, making Fortuna Dusseldorf's matchday squads for Bundesliga matches against Borussia Mönchengladbach, SC Freiburg and Hertha Berlin.
The 20-year-old Okoye will be available for selection against Fortuna Köln on March 21, six days before the Super Eagles AFCON qualifier against the Leone Stars.
