Onyekuru Is Scapegoated After Galatasaray's Draw Against Besiktas In Istanbul Derby
Published: March 16, 2020Monaco loanee Henry Onyekuru was scapegoated in the wake of Galatasaray's goalless draw against Besiktas in the Istanbul derby on Sunday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Nigeria international made his fifth consecutive start in the Turkish Super Lig and was in action for 87 minutes before making way for Emre Akbaba.
Onyekuru was a surprise inclusion in manager Fatih Terim's starting line-up as he only resumed training on Friday, two days before the meeting at the Türk Telekom Stadium, having picked up a training ground injury earlier in the week.
"Henry Onyekuru, one of the names that Galatasaray people expect most from Beşiktaş, was very ineffective in offense," Turkish sports daily Fanatik wrote and captioned the article, 'Onyekuru went crazy this time'.
The former Everton winger has blown hot and cold since his return to Galatasaray in the winter transfer market, having a hand in 3 goals in his first four appearances in the league but has not assisted or scored in his last three matches.
Up next for Onyekuru and his teammates is a trip to Aminu Umar's Rizespor on Sunday, March 22.
