Published: March 16, 2020Stephen Eze has the honour of being the highest scoring Nigerian defender in the European Leagues, first-tier only, in the 2019-2020 season, allnigeriasoccer.com.
The former Ifeanyi Ubah star joined Kazakhstan Premier League club FC Tobol in the winter transfer market following his exploits at Lokomotiv Plovdiv, for whom he scored three goals in the first half of the season, a tally not bettered by any other Nigerian defender.
Eze netted a brace against FK Etar in October 2019 and his other goal came in the derby against Botev Plovdiv at the end of August.
Little known Simeon Ajanah-Chinedu is next on the list with two goals for OFK Titograd in the First League of Montenegro.
Three illustrious names in Kenneth Omeruo (Leganes), Kingsley Ehizibue (Cologne) and Jamilu Collins (SC Paderborn) who play in the big five European Leagues are joint third with one goal each.
Omeruo's best scoring season was in his maiden season in Europe, 2011-2012 when he netted two goals in nine matches during a loan spell at ADO Den Haag, while Ehizibue best tally for a single season came in 2015-16 when he registered four goals.
