Iwobi Names 7 Super Eagles Stars, 4 Everton Players In His Dream XI; Ighalo Gets Special Mention
Published: April 15, 2020In an Instagram Live conversation with Don Dada, Alex Iwobi has unveiled his Dream XI containing seven Super Eagles stars and four Everton players.
The Hale End Academy product opted to omit players currently playing for his former team, Arsenal in his lineup, and gave special mention to Manchester United's Odion Ighalo, who did not make his initial list.
England and Everton glovesman Jordan Pickford was his choice in goal, while his childhood pal Ola Aina and Lucas Digne occupied the right-back and left-back positions respectively.
Semi Ajayi got the nod over William Troost-Ekong to partner Mason Holgate in central defence.
Iwobi selected Ndidi as the central midfielder and eventually settled for Glasgow Rangers Joe Aribo as the playmaker, while Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze and Bordeaux's Samuel Kalu took the right midfield and left midfield role respectively.
"I like playing with Ndidi best because he's like two extra players on the pitch," the Everton number 17 said as he justified his decision to leave out Oghenekaro Etebo and Andre Gomes.
On Chukwueze, he said : "Young talent, Chukwueze is crazy. There is one game he beat six men but I think he missed. They call him the Nigerian Robben".
On Joe Aribo, Iwobi added : "I'll put Joe Aribo 10. He came to Nigeria with a statement".
Faced with a dilemma choosing two attackers to complete the team, Iwobi went for his compatriot Victor Osimhen as the first striker because of his goalscoring stats.
He didn't make up his mind over whom to select between three Everton players - Dominic Nathaniel Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean - to partner Osimhen in attack.
