'Ighalo Is Already A Legend' - Osimhen Admits It Will Be Difficult To Surpass Man Utd Star
Published: April 22, 2020Lille young star Victor Osimhen has admitted that it will be difficult for him to step into the shoes of Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo.
The Shanghai Shenhua loanee was particularly impressive in the last twelve months leading up to his international retirement, scoring 12 goals in competitive matches.
Ighalo netted 15 international goals in total and only seven Super Eagles legends sit above him in the scoring charts, - Rashidi Yekini, Segun Odegbami, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Ikechukwu Uche, Obafemi Martins, Ahmed Musa and Samson Siasia.
The former Lyn Oslo man suffered criticism from the Super Eagles faithful after the country exited the 2018 World Cup and his move to Manchester United in January was initially questioned by fans and pundits alike.
"He has shut the mouth of the critics, I am really happy. He is so amazing," said Osimhen in a Instagram conversation with the Super Eagles Media Team on Wednesday night.
"Everything that he has done for the national team, it will be difficult before I will fill in his shoes or even to surpass him will take a lot of time.
"The kind of player that endures such criticism - from the World Cup, national team. He did well to qualify us, for me he's already a legend.
"Ighalo is there and will continue to be there because he's done so well not just in football."

Osimhen has excelled for the national team post-AFCON, scoring four goals in four appearances, more than any other Super Eagles player.
