CIES : N29.9B-Rated Osimhen Is Nigeria's Most Valuable Player; Fifth Most Expensive Ligue 1 & Africa
Published: June 09, 2020According to a study conducted by CIES Football Observatory, Lille striker Victor Osimhen is the most expensive Nigerian player with a price tag of 64.3 million euros (approximately N29.9 billion in Nigerian currency).
The Super Eagles number nine outranked the only other Nigerian player listed in the top 100, Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who has an estimated value of 49.5 million euros.
While Osimhen is the 66th most expensive player in the world, the holding midfielder cracked the list at number 94 overall.
The former Wolfsburg striker is the fifth most valuable player in Ligue 1 behind the most expensive player on the planet, PSG's Kylian Mbappe (€259.2m), Marquinhos Aoás(€89.2m), Neymar (€82.7m) and Houssem Aouar (€69.2m).
Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is Africa's highest ranked player with a price tag of €144.9m, followed by Senegal winger Sadio Mane (€139.2m), Real Madrid-owned fullback Achraf Hakimi (€79.0m) and Arsenal's Ivory Coast national-teamer Nicolas Pepe (€73.1m) and Osimhen.
Completing the top five most expensive players in the world are Raheem Sterling (€194.7m), Jadon Sancho (€179.1m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (€171.1m) and Marcus Rashford (€152.3m).
The 21-year-old Osimhen moved to Lille in August for a fee of 12 million euros and has a contract with the club until the end of the 2023-2024 season.
