Super Eagles Star Awaziem Receives Backing From Leganes Coach Pre-Barcelona
Published: June 16, 2020Super Eagles star Chidozie Awaziem has received backing from CD Leganes coach Javier Aguirre ahead of tonight's La Liga clash against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
Against Real Valladolid at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Saturday, the visitors took the lead less than two minutes into the game through Enes Unal after a defensive mix-up between the Porto loanee and goalkeeper Pichu Cuéllar.
Awaziem signaled with his hand to Cuéllar and headed the ball but the goalkeeper came charging out of his goal, allowing Unal to sprint clear to put Valladolid ahead.
Aguirre denied at Monday's pre-match press conference that Awaziem and Cuellar will be punished for their error at the start of the match vs Valladolid.
The Mexican gaffer told reporters : "I think it did not affect them. In the performance of the rest of the game they played as I told them.
"They did what I asked them to and I am sure that it did not affect them and it will not affect them.
"They are specific errors, you stay there and they are already there. Everyone is wrong. I am the person in charge of that play.
"It is one thing that they would have been wrong, in all the actions, that they would have collapsed, they would not have spoken ... but they played a complete game."
Both Kenneth Omeruo and Awaziem were named in Leganes traveling party to Barcelona on Tuesday morning.
