Odion Ighalo Helps Manchester United Set Two New Premier League Records
Published: July 09, 2020According to the statisticians at OPTA, Manchester United set two new Premier League records in their 3-0 rout of relegation-threatened Aston Villa at Villa Park on Thursday night.
The Red Devils are the first side in Premier League history to win four consecutive games by a margin of three or more goals, with the last team to do so being Liverpool in the old first division back in October 1987.
Following their latest victory, Manchester United became the first team to beat an opponent on every day of the week in the Premier League, with their match against Aston Villa the sixth fixture to be played on all seven days of the week in the competition.
Former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo helped United achieve the two records, having come off the bench against Sheffield United, Brighton & Hove, Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
The 2019 AFCON top scorer has been in a rich vein of form in Cup competitions but has yet to open his account in the Premier League after nine appearances as a substitute, however, he has lasted a mere 86 minutes on the pitch in the top-flight.
In the race for a Champions League spot, Ole Gunnar Solskjær's side have accumulated 58 points, one less than fourth-placed Leicester City, with only four games left to the end of the season.
