Bukayo Saka Promoted Again By England As Arsenal Wonderkid Receives First U21 Call-Up
Published: August 26, 2020England U21 coach Aidy Boothroyd has announced his roster for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers, with Bukayo Saka and Queens Park Rangers playmaker Eberechi Eze part of the 23-man group, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
While Eze has two appearances under his belt for England U21s, Arsenal winger Saka has jumped one age group with his first invitation to the squad, having previously featured for the U19s.
The two highly-rated London-born youngsters have been openly courted by the Nigeria Football Federation to switch their international allegiance from England to Nigeria, but their loyalties lie with the 1966 world champions for now.
This is not the first time Saka has been fast-racked into an England youth team and look no further than the 2018-2019 season when he made his debut for England U18s in September 2018 and two months later he was promoted to the U19 team.
The Hale End Academy product is in line to play his first game for England U21s when they face off with Kosovo on September 4, before their second fixture with Austria four days later.
Saka was surprisingly omitted from the England squad for their UEFA Nations League matches against Iceland and Denmark, something which was sweet music to the ears of Super Eagles fans on Tuesday.
